Match reports
U14A versus Evesham
Nomads U14A travelled to Evesham yesterday (Monday) for a knock-out game. Stand-in skipper Tom Goodwin lost the toss and Nomads were inserted. David Moriarty and debutant Jake Pinder-Hampton made an excellent start, with a fluid and aggressive partnership worth 77 before Pinder-Hampton was bowled for 32. His knock comprised of five lusty boundaries and, for a 12 year old, he can certainly hit a long ball. Moriarty eventually fell for a well constructed 40 before being adjudged LBW. With both openers gone, Nomads lost some momentum but eventually finished on 108 off 20 overs; a competitive score on a pitch with some uneven bounce. The Evesham openers made a quick start in response, scoring 13 off the first two overs. Goodwin, however, bowled with good pace and was always threatening. His figures of 3.2-0-8-3 were well deserved, although he could quite easily have had more wickets. He was well supported by Ali Hunt (1 for 7), Alex Barnes (2 for 13) and Ben Rattue (2 for 11). In addition, a special mention should be made for Dom Badger who stood in at the last minute for his elder brother, who broke his toe that day. He ended with figures of 3-1-6-2, a great performance. Evesham were eventually bowled out for just 55, thanks to a very satisfactory all-round display by the Nomads bowlers, who adapted well to the wicket, and a strong fielding performance.
U14A versus Dominies and Guild
On a cold, wet
evening, totally unsuitable for cricket, Nomads U14As travelled to
Battenhall for a game against Dominies and Guild. The game was reduced
to 15 overs and, upon winning the toss, the home side decided to make
first use of the artificial wicket. It was easy to see that the Nomads
opening bowlers, Tom Goodwin and Ali Hunt, were too quick for the
batsmen but it was the change bowlers who did the real damage. Will
Moriarty's second over, in particular, yielded a superb hat-trick and
more excellent bowling from Rob Wootton, Alex Barnes and Dom Badger
restricted D&G to a score below 70.
As Nomads started their innings, it didn't take long to realise that the
score set was well below par. Dave Moriarty played several exquisite
drives and raced to 45 not out. He was supported by Harry Williams, who
played a sprightly knock. Nomads dominated the match and won with plenty
of overs to spare, in what was another very encouraging performance.
U14A versus Martley U14
Nomads U14A struggled to make runs in the face of good bowling and fielding at Martley. Greg Ritchie (25) batted patiently, and was well supported by Neils Emmerson (21) and Ben O’Hickey (12) as they were bowled out for 103. Martley then found batting even more difficult with seamer Tom Goodwin (2-6) and leg spinner Alex Barnes (4-9) wrecking the top and middle order. Emmerson (1-2) and Tom Badger (1-2) chipped in as Martley were all out for 36.
