Under 12s versus Hanley Castle

On a very true artificial wicket at Hanley Castle, Worcester Nomads were invited to bat first and the opening pair of Oliver and Adams put on 46 before Oliver retired with 31, Pinder Hampton then started to accelerate and the score was on 80 before Adams was dismissed for 17. A partnership then developed between Jones and Pinder Hampton with the latter retiring on 30. Jones with 18* saw the innings to a close at 118 off 20 overs. Hanley Castle found it difficult to accelerate against the strong opening attack of Murphy and Badger, a tight opening spell saw the home side total 16 off 6 overs. Hines (2-7) was then brought into the attack and removed the dangerous Price for 12, well caught by Murphy at mid-on. Elt (0-11) and Jones (2-3) then consolidated the good opening spell, Jones bowling well to remove Matthews for 5 and Owen for 0 in consecutive balls. The Hanley Castle innings came to a close at 47. Worcester Nomads victorious by 71 runs

Under 12’s v. Hanley Castle

Worcester Nomads were invited to bat first with openers Harry Williams and Dan Adams taking the crease. Harry Williams soon set about the Hanley Castle bowling and together with some positive running between the wickets soon reached 30. Dan Adams continued to be cautious in his approach but was accumulating runs. Jamie Oliver (5) and Nick Jones (10) briefly entertained the on looking crowd but were both dismissed the same way, caught by Olly Price off the bowling of Todd Matthews who finished with figures of 2-18 off his 4 overs. Lewis Austin hit three boundaries in his swift 17 before being bowled by Smith. With the need to increase the momentum of the innings, Dan Adams was run out for another impressive innings of 30. Dan Murphy (7*) and Ben Gunn (0*) completed the innings with Nomads finishing on 112 for 4 off their allotted 20 overs.

Hanley Castle found it difficult against the bowling of Dan Murphy and debutant Joshua Feek. In the third over, Dan Murphy removed Olly Price, the Hanley Castle Opener. Todd Matthews came to the crease and looked at ease with the bowling until taking on Jamie Oliver in the deep whose throw over the top of the stumps meant that Matthews was run out. Hanley Castle, having not learnt from Oliver's throwing capabilities, then tried to take a quick single and this time, a direct hit removed Gleeson for 12. The youngest member of the squad was then introduced into the attack, Ollie Ranscombe, who soon found his range. Owen was clean bowled by Ranscombe with one that kept a bit low and then Harry Williams took a smart leg side catch to remove Smith. This wasn't the end of Ranscombe's activities, in the next over, Turner skied the ball to mid-wicket where a confident Ranscombe called and took an excellent catch. Lewis Austin (1-13) and Bernie Thomas (0-7) ensured that the target was always going to be hard to achieve. Jamie Oliver was brought into the attack towards the end and he removed Thomas and Radley before the innings closed on 88 for 9. Worcester Nomads winning by 24 runs.

Under 12’s v. Martley

Having decided to bat, Martley started cautiously with Kirby and Hogarth. It wasn't long before the wickets started to tumble, Lewis Austin removed Kirby in his first over and DP in his second and Powell, with a beautifully judged caught and bowled in his third. Austin finishing his spell with figures of 3-7. Although runs from the bat were coming very slow, poor bowling by the Nomads bowlers resulted in too many wides which would eventually account for nearly half of the Martley total. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals but the introduction of Carter to the crease soon changed this. With some lusty blows, Carter soon reached 30 and retired, having come in late in the Martley batting order, there wasn't enough batsmen left for Carter to inflict more damage to the Nomads bowlers. Jamie Oliver (2-24), Nick Jones (2-11) and Will Elt were the other wicket takers for Nomads. The Martley innings closed on 96 all out. Worcester Nomads, with the changed opening partnership of Harry Williams and Dan Murphy, attempted to give the innings the impetuous it required to chase down the Martley score. Harry Williams stroked the ball beautifully to all parts of the ground and it wasn't until the fourth over with the score on 20 that Nomads lost their first wicket, Dan Murphy clean bowled by Powell. This brought the Captain Nick Jones to the wicket and together with Harry Williams they proceeded to chase down the Martley total. Williams retiring in the 6th over with a score of 33. Dan Adams came and went, well caught by Powell off the bowling of Studer. This brought Jamie Oliver to the crease who, together with Nick Jones, surpassed the Martley total of 96 in the 11th over. Nomads continued to bat and Jones (30) and Oliver (33) were also retired. Ben Gunn (12) and Lewis Austin (16*) then continued where Oliver and Jones had left off. The innings was finished with a six from Austin and closed on 175 for 3 wickets.  Nomads won the tie by 79 runs.

U12’s v. Malvern

Malvern won the toss and elected to field inviting Worcester Nomads to bat first. In a game reduced to 16 overs due to the weather, Malvern opened the bowling with Rathbone and Dovey and it wasn't long before wickets started to tumble. Michael Hines was removed by Dovey in the second over and Nick Jones in the fourth over which brought Jamie Oliver and Harry Williams together. With some masterful strokes, they started to rebuild the innings, a mis-understanding between the pair then removed the dangerous Williams, run out for 20. Jamie Oliver was then joined by Lewis Austin and they continued to accelerate the Nomads score. With the introduction of spin from Wain, the Nomads innings started to lose a bit of momentum, Oliver was removed for a useful 16 which left Austin, ably supported by the Nomads tail, to post a challenging 113 to win. Lewis Austin retiring for an excellent 33.  In reply, Malvern started cautiously against the opening attack of Dan Murphy and Lewis Austin and it wasn't long before the first wicket fell, Dan Murphy removing Rathbone. Georgia Hennessy then joined Rathbone and they steadily progressed the score but falling well behind the required run rate. The introduction of Will Elt saw the removal of Rathbone for 11 with further tight bowling, runs were becoming particularly hard to find and a mis-understanding, and some excellent fielding from Elt, caused the run out of Will Dovey. A rain break ensued and following the break Nomads continued to close in on victory. A late flourish of stroke play from Wain (10) and Bowden (16) increased the Malvern total but this finished on 79 for 4 and defeat by 33 runs. Will Elt the pick of the Nomads bowlers with 1-7 off his three overs.

 Under 12’s v. Barnards Green

Worcester Nomads opened with Lewis Austin and Dan Adams. The Barnards Green bowling was very tight and Nomads struggled to accelerate with any purpose. In an effort to try and push the score on, Dan Adams was well caught by Jack Macintosh off his own bowling. This brought skipper Nick Jones to the wicket and together with Lewis Austin the score started to gain momentum but, with the introduction of Blackburn saw the loss of Nomads second wicket, Nick Jones for 6. Jamie Oliver then joined Austin and together they inched the Nomads total towards the target with some excellent stroke play and running between the wickets. With three overs to spare, Nomads reached the target of 75 for the loss of two wickets. Lewis Austin with another superb innings of 26. Playing their first game at home, Worcester Nomads won the toss and decided to field. Henry Dawson and debutant Lewis Richardson opened the bowling. Lewis Richardson struck in his first over removing Hunt without scoring. Seldon and Wilson then started to construct the Barnards Green innings with some good running and confident stroke play. With the pressure of achieving a good target, and the introduction of Joshua Hawes, this brought about some quick wickets for the Nomads attack, Wilson was removed for 17, well caught by Lewis Richardson and Seldon (22) run out by a direct hit by Nomads skipper Nick Jones. The introduction of Dan Murphy and Jamie Oliver saw further wickets fall and the innings closed on 74 for the loss of 5 wickets. Jamie Oliver the pick of the Nomads bowlers with 2-4.
